Common Flaws in registry cleaners
Everybody talks about PC optimization by using registry cleaners but nobody seems to bother about the quality of available registry cleaner softwares.
There is no standard available to check weather a registry cleaner is performing what it is saying or not. Yet there are few mistakes that most of the registry cleaners while cleaning windows registry.
These common problems are as follows:
Detection of keys which are not actually corrupt
This problem occurs mostly due to lack of testing. There is no way to write a corrupt key detection algorithm but to hit and try on different versions of windows with different program installations. This is because of the fact that third party programs have their own way of writing configuration values into windows registry. For instance a program stores a path in registry and appends a string at the end of path and while reusing it removes appended string. The registry cleaner detects that value as a corrupt key (invalid path) and burden on windows registry. Cleaning such a key could cause the program to not function properly by losing the information.
Detection of keys which cannot be deleted
Most of the registry cleaners detect the keys which are protected by windows and cannot be deleted. The cleaners fail in removing such keys which results in bringing those keys again and again at every scan without telling user the actual situation.
Management of Startup keys
Startup keys are those which program writes in registry so that windows start them on its startup. Many registry cleaners provide very poor management of startup keys by conflicting with windows own utility to manage such items.
