Computer Diagnostic Software Misconceptions
PC diagnostic tools can help save you from many headaches when you are trying to figure out what is wrong with your computer. But there are some common misconceptions when it comes to using this type of software and what it can do.
Misconception: One program is capable of finding any kind of problem and then fix them.
No single program can diagnose everything that possibly could cause a problem with your computer. This is true also if you have several ongoing problems. If there is a problem in your registry, some kind of disk error, a full hard drive, some type of a virus in your boot sector, and any spyware that slows down your computer, there is not likely to be one program that can fix everything.
What diagnostic tools will do is find the cause of most errors and point the solutions out to you. You might want a separate program for something as complex as the registry, for instance, and an anti-virus/anti-spyware program to keep these problems at bay. Don’t think that one program is the perfect piece of software for every problem.
Misconception: Software can fix every problem that I have on my computer.
Sometimes, there are some types of hard drive errors that slow your computer down and can also interfere with your ability to be able to use certain programs. While it would be nice if one software program could fix hardware problems, these types of problems usually need to be fixed by a professional.
You may have other kinds of hardware issues that were brought to your attention by a kind diagnostic software, such as problems with not having enough RAM to keep your computer running efficiently. These are generally going to have to be fixed by someone who will have to add memory to your computer to fix the problem.
Misconception: Every piece of diagnostic software is safe.
Unfortunately, some software that’s supposed to help you can actually cause problems, as it’s bundled with spyware or may even contain a Trojan that allows someone access to your computer. When it comes to registry software or other pc diagnostic tools, only download those that come highly recommended and have been proven to work.
