First and foremost in computer maintenance tools is the virus scanner. If your computer gets a virus, it could be the end of it. Just about everybody is protected against viruses these days, though. The reason is Windows XP and Vista will keep a popup in your face if you dont have an up to date virus cleaner setup on your PC.

Spyware is another enemy to your computers health. Actually, spyware is worse than a virus because it can steal your identity, your passwords and your banking information. There are anti-virus programs that do a pretty good job keeping the high profile spyware out of your computer, but most of them wont detect all spyware. You should have a program installed on your computer that will take care of all the many types of spyware if you dont have one installed already.

Registry Corruption Means Slow Computer

Then there is registry corruption. Registry corruption causes more computer slowdown problems than spyware and viruses do these days. Registry corruption, unlike viruses and spyware, is not a malicious program. It is the result of files being deleted, changed and moved. No person or program says, Lets go corrupt this guys registry. Rather, registry corruption happens naturally when a computer is being used. So, it is impossible to avoid.

Registry corruption is probably less dangerous than spyware because registry corruption only affects your operating system while spyware can steal your identity. Still, when registry corruption accumulates it can cause your operating system to stop working altogether. Then, you would need a reformat and reinstall. This is bad enough, especially if you dont have a complete backup of your files!

Even if registry corruption isnt causing you big problems at the moment, you still take a chance when you operate your computer with it present because this corruption tends to multiply. If youre not anywhere close to having a catastrophic failure due to registry corruption, you still will be sacrificing computer speed and performance because of this corruption.

Its Not All Bad

Spyware is one issue, viruses are another and registry corruption is still another. Its a bad deal, but that is the way it is. A computer needs to be guarded against being infected by any of these three rascals. If it is not, the result could be a big problem.

So, your plight is to deal with each one of these problems. Any one of them can cause computer slowdowns and crashes. They all work against your computer in different ways. Unfortunately, they all require their own removal tools.

The majority of computers Ive seen lately come out of the box with a virus scanner included in the pre-installed software package. This is good because it leaves you only needing to get a free spyware scan and a free registry scan to see if you have an immediate need for either or both of these. Of course, even if you dont need one right away, remember to get these programs as soon as you are able. They can be lifesavers and they all that expensive!

By now, just about every computer user has a virus scanner setup on his or her computer. In fact, those who dont have one and are running Windows XP or Vista are getting constant reminders from their OS that they better get virus protection soon. This is good because it only takes one virus to put your computer out of business!

A Corrupt Registry Results in a Slow Computer

Then there is registry corruption. Registry corruption causes more computer slowdown problems than spyware and viruses do these days. Registry corruption, unlike viruses and spyware, is not a malicious program. It is the result of files being deleted, changed and moved. No person or program says, Lets go corrupt this guys registry. Rather, registry corruption happens naturally when a computer is being used. So, it is impossible to avoid.

The problem is you cant let registry corruption accumulate on your hard drive for very long because in advanced cases, it will cause the operating system to shut down. This can be serious because if your PC does shut down due to registry corruption, you may be forced to reformat your hard drive and then re-install all your software. In a case such as this, if you didnt have a recent backup of all your files, you would lose them. Gone would be all your documents, MP3s and JPEGs.

Just because registry corruption doesnt seem like it is an immediate problem, it is still a problem. You should keep on top of registry corruption because it tends to breed registry corruption and an operating system failure could occur before you know it. Besides that, the corruption will slow down your computer and that is just plain aggravating!

Dealing with These Problems is not Insurmountable

So, there are three separate issues every PC owner has to deal with; viruses, spyware and registry corruption. These things are capable of messing up your life in different various ways. So, it is a wise move to have programs that will protect you against all these varmints.

So, your plight is to deal with each one of these problems. Any one of them can cause computer slowdowns and crashes. They all work against your computer in different ways. Unfortunately, they all require their own removal tools.

Most times, an anti-virus program comes pre-installed on the computer when it is new. Both spyware and registry scans are free so you can get one of each to find out where you stand as far as these two enemies of computers are concerned. If your free scan indicates you need to get these programs installed on your computer, it is not the end of the world because they come with price tags that are far from cost prohibitive.
